A Forgettable Day
Doubled over in the shower
Body slick, echoing wails
Steam rising
No tears, just the rasp of dry heaving.
Stasis on the rug, limbs heavy
Shallow breathing
Salt water pools in the left ear
The sound of my own drowning.
Sobbing in the car
Empty parking lot
Snot glistening as the sun sets
Memories cascading.
Trapped in this painful abyss
Between that first breath
And the last sigh
This cruel middle of living.
